Why Do Opposites Attract When They Clash?
“Whoever said that like attracts like?”
I had a pretty interesting dinner conversation with some friends a few days ago.
We were discussing how couples typically have 2 contrasting personality types paired together— Type A and Type B.
Because we’re in 2024, I had to seek out the ChatGPT definition. They characterised Type As to be competitive, impatient, perfectionists, multi-taskers, with aggressive tendencies and a natural sense of urgency.
Type Bs on the other hand are typically relaxed, easygoing, less stressed, flexible, and tend to prioritise personal happiness and enjoyment of their journey.
I think for me, a lot of my Type A traits has to do with upbringing.
Over the years I’ve had some development through personal relationships too. Interactions with Bs frustrated me in the past, but I’ve also painfully learnt how an A response could be harsh. Sometimes, it even seemed as if I’m projecting blame when things don’t go my way. Not everything is goal-oriented and about the destination itself.
So —curious what everyone thinks of this. Do you think you’re A or B, and do you think opposites in this regard attract?
